What Sculptra Actually Does
Sculptra is made of poly-L-lactic acid, or PLLA. Once injected, it acts as a stimulus: your own tissue responds over weeks and months, and the improvement you see comes from that response rather than from the injected volume itself. The material is gradually absorbed while the structural change develops. That is the difference between a biostimulator and a hyaluronic acid filler, and it is why nothing dramatic happens on the drive home.
Sculptra vs dermal filler
A hyaluronic acid filler adds volume where it is placed, and you see it immediately. Sculptra improves facial volume and skin structure gradually by stimulating collagen production, and it is generally selected for diffuse volume loss rather than for shaping one specific feature. The two are not competitors: some treatment plans use filler for structure and a biostimulator for the broader change, staged over time. If immediate contour is your goal, facial balancing with dermal filler is the more direct route.
Sculptra does not rebuild everything you have lost. It changes the trajectory.

- Additional sessions may be recommended as results develop, and are quoted at the same $900 per vial.
- Your provider will not commit to a total vial count before assessing your anatomy, degree of volume loss, and desired pace of change.

When Sculptra Results Appear, and How Long They Last
The first weeks
Any immediate fullness after injection is from the fluid the product is reconstituted in, not from the result. It settles. This is normal and expected, and it is the reason honest before-and-after photography never compares a day-one photo to a delayed result.
Around one month
Manufacturer information indicates results can begin to appear within about one month as collagen responds. Change at this stage is usually subtle and is easier to see in photographs than in the mirror.
Across the treatment course

Aftercare
Sculptra Aftercare and the 5-5-5 Massage
- Massage the treated area for 5 minutes, 5 times per day, for 5 days, unless your provider gives you different instructions based on your treatment.
- Swelling, redness, tenderness and bruising can occur after injection and are usually temporary.
- Use a cool compress for comfort if needed. Avoid aggressive rubbing beyond the instructed massage technique.
- Avoid strenuous exercise, significant heat exposure, saunas and hot tubs for the first 24 hours or as directed.
- Contact Revive if you notice a firm nodule, worsening or severe pain, skin colour change, signs of infection, or any symptom that concerns you.

Risks and candidacy
Sculptra Side Effects, Nodules and Safety
Written plainly, because this is what patients are actually searching for before they book.
- Common, usually temporary: injection-site swelling, redness, bruising, tenderness and small bumps.
- Nodules: firm lumps can form under the skin after PLLA treatment, sometimes weeks or months later. Aftercare massage is intended to reduce that risk, and nodules should be assessed by your provider rather than self-treated.
- Infection: any injection breaks the skin barrier and carries infection risk.
- Vascular compromise: rare but serious. Injecting into or compressing a blood vessel can restrict blood flow and cause tissue or, very rarely, vision injury. The absence of an event in a manufacturer trial does not make it impossible in practice.
- Not for everyone: Sculptra has product-specific contraindications, warnings and precautions, including a history of keloid formation. Candidacy is determined at medical assessment.
