How it works
What Aerolase Targets in Acne
Acne is not one problem. It is active inflammation, oil production, bacteria and the pigment left behind — and the reason a single platform is useful here is that it reaches more than one of them.
Inflammatory lesions
Selective photothermal energy is directed at the inflamed component of active acne. Inflammation is what makes lesions painful, red and slow to settle, and it is also what drives the pigment and scarring that outlast the breakout itself.
Sebaceous activity
The sebaceous glands are a target of treatment. Reducing how much oil the skin produces is one of the mechanisms a progressive series works through — how much any individual's oil production changes is not something we quantify in advance.
C. acnes bacteria
Porphyrins produced by C. acnes absorb light energy, which is the basis for targeting the bacterial component of acne rather than only the visible lesion.
Post-inflammatory pigment
The dark marks left after a breakout heals are often what patients actually want gone. Because the same platform is used for pigment, PIH can be addressed within the same plan rather than needing a separate device.
Manufacturer-supported clinical materials describe a five-treatment Aerolase series for acne. Published figures come from small studies under study conditions and describe reduction in lesion counts, not clearance — they are not a promise of any individual result. Your own response depends on acne type, severity, skin type, hormonal factors and how consistently you complete the series.
Setting expectations
Acne Is Chronic. Treatment Plans Should Say So.
This page used to promise to clear acne for good. It should not have. Acne is a chronic, relapsing condition for a lot of people, and no laser — this one included — is a permanent cure for it. What a progressive series aims at is real: fewer and less inflamed lesions, calmer background redness, and steady work on the pigment breakouts leave behind.
Those three things also improve on different timelines. Active lesion activity usually moves first, redness follows, and post-inflammatory pigment is the slowest of the three. Judging a series after one session tells you almost nothing, which is why the plan is reassessed as it runs.
Maintenance after a completed series is normal for a chronic condition, not a sign that treatment failed. Established patients are $400–$450 per maintenance session.
Working with your care
Alongside Your Dermatologic Care, Not Instead of It
Topical retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, antibiotics and isotretinoin are evidence-based dermatologic treatments, and for some patients they are exactly the right answer — sometimes on their own, sometimes alongside laser treatment. We will not talk you out of care that is working for you.
What we will do is be straight with you about which category you are in. Severe nodulocystic acne generally warrants dermatologic assessment. Acne with an underlying hormonal driver needs that worked up. If a laser series is not the right first move for your skin, saying so costs us a sale and saves you $1,800.
Bring a full list of your current products and medications to the consultation. Isotretinoin in particular affects laser timing and has to be reviewed by the medical team rather than assumed from a general rule.

Aerolase Neo Elite uses a 1064 nm wavelength and 650-microsecond pulse technology designed for treatment across Fitzpatrick I–VI. Treatment settings and candidacy remain individualized according to your concern, skin response, medical history and pigment risk.
In acne this is not a footnote. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is frequently the main complaint in deeper skin tones, and it is also the outcome an over-aggressive laser can make worse. Conservative settings and individualized pigment-risk assessment are the point, not a disclaimer.
What to expect
From Consultation to Completed Series

Skin consultation
We look at the type and distribution of your acne, your skin type, what you have already tried, your current products and any medications. If your acne warrants dermatologic assessment first, we will tell you that rather than sell you a series.

Individualized parameters
Settings are selected for your presentation and skin type. In deeper skin tones the plan is deliberately conservative, because the pigment risk being managed is the same pigment we are trying to improve.

Your sessions
Sessions are short and delivered without gel or a cooling head in contact with the skin. Most patients describe a sequence of brief warm pulses across the treatment area.

Between sessions
Aerolase is generally positioned as low social downtime rather than no downtime. Temporary redness, warmth or other treatment-specific reactions can occur, and what you experience is individual.

Reassessment
Acne response is progressive, so the series is reviewed as it runs — lesion activity, redness and pigment are each tracked separately, because they improve on different timelines.
Already have acne scarring?
