Why Revive Uses an 810-nm Diode Laser
At Revive Beauty Bar, laser hair reduction is performed with professional 810-nm diode laser technology. A diode laser delivers a defined laser wavelength that targets melanin within the hair follicle. Our Spectrum platform uses a dedicated 810-nm diode handpiece designed for fast, comfortable hair-removal treatments. Treatment settings are selected according to skin type, hair characteristics and treatment area.
Is IPL the same as a diode laser?
Diode laser and IPL are not the same technology. IPL uses broad-spectrum intense pulsed light and is classified as a non-laser light-based device. A diode system uses a defined laser wavelength. Both technologies can reduce hair, but Revive specifically chose an 810-nm diode platform for our laser hair-reduction service.
Laser Hair Removal for Deeper Skin Tones
Laser hair reduction can be performed safely across a wide range of skin tones when the device, energy settings, pulse duration and cooling are chosen for the individual. At Revive Beauty Bar, your skin type is assessed before any treatment parameters are selected, and settings are adjusted conservatively for richer skin tones. Recent sun exposure, tanning and self-tanner all change how skin responds, so we review them at every visit.

How it works
What to Expect at Revive Beauty Bar
Laser hair reduction works by directing laser energy toward pigment in the hair follicle. Hair grows in cycles, so a series of treatments is needed to reach follicles during active growth phases. The number of sessions and spacing vary by treatment area, hair characteristics, hormones and individual response.

At Revive Beauty Bar, laser treatments are performed in a medical-aesthetic setting by Angelica Alcaraz, BSN, RN. Angelica evaluates skin type, hair characteristics, treatment history and goals before selecting treatment parameters. Her approach is conservative, individualized and results-driven, with particular attention to safe treatment planning across a wide range of skin tones.
Advanced technology is only part of the treatment. Clinical assessment, appropriate settings, eye protection, technique and aftercare all matter.
Preparation
Before Your Laser Hair Removal Appointment
- Shave the treatment area the day before your appointment (approximately 12 to 24 hours before treatment).
- Do not wax, tweeze, thread or use electrolysis on the treatment area for at least 4 weeks before treatment. The follicle needs to be present for the laser to target it.
- Avoid tanning and significant sun exposure before treatment. Do not arrive with a sunburn or fresh tan. Use broad-spectrum SPF 30+ on exposed treatment areas.
- Avoid sunless tanner and self-tanning products before treatment so your natural skin tone can be evaluated accurately.
- Arrive with clean skin. Remove makeup, deodorant, lotion, oils and fragrance from the treatment area.
- Tell Revive about prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, supplements and any recent changes to your health before treatment.
- Tell Revive about current or recent isotretinoin use, medications that increase photosensitivity, recent cosmetic procedures, a history of cold sores, active rashes or infections, pregnancy or breastfeeding so timing and candidacy can be reviewed.
- Do not bleach the hair immediately before treatment. The laser relies on pigment in the hair target.

Please contact Revive before your appointment if you have had recent tanning, a sunburn, a new medication, an active skin reaction, or a change in your medical history. Treatment may need to be postponed for safety.

Who May Need to Delay or Avoid Treatment?

- Active sunburn, significant recent tanning or irritated skin in the treatment area.
- Active infection, open wound, significant rash or uncontrolled inflammatory skin condition in the treatment area.
- Use of medications or products that may increase light sensitivity. These require individual review.
- Current or recent isotretinoin use. Timing should be reviewed by the treating medical team rather than assumed.
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding. Elective treatment may be deferred according to medical and practice policy.
- Tattoos or permanent makeup within the planned treatment field. Laser should not be fired directly over tattoo pigment and the area may need to be excluded.
- Eyelids, eyebrows and the immediately surrounding eye area are not treated because of the risk of serious eye injury.
- White, gray, very light blond and many red hairs may respond poorly because there may not be enough melanin in the hair for effective targeting.
Aftercare
After Your Laser Hair Removal Treatment
- Mild redness, warmth or swelling around the follicles can occur after treatment and is usually temporary.
- Use a cool compress if needed for comfort. Do not scratch, pick or aggressively rub the treated skin.
- Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning. Use broad-spectrum SPF 30+ on exposed treated skin.
- For the first 24 to 48 hours, avoid excessive heat and friction such as very hot showers, hot tubs, saunas and strenuous exercise if the area is still warm or irritated.
- Use gentle skincare while the area is sensitive. Temporarily avoid harsh scrubs, retinoids, strong acids or other irritating products on the treated area.
- Once the skin is calm, shaving is acceptable between treatments. Do not wax, tweeze or thread because those methods remove the follicular target needed for the next laser session.
- Treated hairs may shed gradually over the following 1 to 3 weeks. This can look like continued growth before the hair releases.
- Contact Revive promptly for blistering, severe or worsening pain, signs of infection, significant burns, or persistent or unexpected pigment change.
